Welcome to the winter wonderland of the Alps

Around 150 years ago, a hotelier in St. Moritz invited his summer guests to also come to the Engadin in winter some time. No sooner said than done: a group of Brits showed up and winter tourism was invented. From the Engadin, the new trend spread like wildfire. Just a few years later and winter holidays in the Alps were all the rage.

By and by, locals and guests gave various sports a try. Skiing, ice hockey and curling spread from St. Moritz to the rest of the Alps, while bobsledding was actually invented here. St. Moritz and the Engadin have remained the cradle of active, enjoyable winter holidays. Nowhere else is there as much variety as here, in the winter wonderland of the Alps.
